Jiang Tiefeng (Chinese, b. 1938), Sweet Lady – Blue, Limited Edition Serigraph on Canvas. Artwork: 14 × 14 in. Frame: 21 × 21 in. A striking limited-edition serigraph on canvas by noted Chinese-American artist Jiang Tiefeng (b. 1938), from his Sweet Lady series. This example is the blue color variation, artist signed in gold lower right and hand-numbered 140/250 lower left. Dominated by an extraordinary range of cobalt, turquoise, violet and icy blue tones, the composition centers on an elegant female figure with Jiang's characteristically elongated, flowing black hair. Intricate metallic-gold lines weave through the hair like strands of jewelry, punctuated by colorful decorative accents and flowers. The figure is surrounded by a wonderfully complex array of stylized animals, birds, abstract faces and interlocking geometric forms, creating the dense, dreamlike imagery for which Jiang is known. Born in Ningbo, China, in 1938, Jiang Tiefeng studied at Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts and became an important figure associated with the Yunnan School of Painting. His distinctive style combines traditional Chinese imagery and symbolism with modern abstraction, elaborate linear pattern and brilliant color. After relocating to the United States in the 1980s, his paintings and limited-edition works attracted an international following. A particularly beautiful example of Jiang's work, the predominantly blue palette gives this variation a striking jewel-like quality. Presented in a substantial antiqued black-and-gold frame with linen liner and black inner molding. This example is especially appealing when displayed with the other Sweet Lady color variations from the collection, each bearing the matching 140/250 edition number. Condition: Very good overall condition with strong, vibrant coloration. Minor scattered surface marks and fine scratches are visible upon close examination, consistent with age and display. Frame exhibits minor rubbing, scuffs, finish loss and scattered abrasions, particularly along the gilt outer molding. Overall the work remains visually impressive and presents beautifully. This auction house considers the photos to be the condition report.
