LaFalle DuBou, The Embrace, Acrylic on Paper. A striking and highly expressive original acrylic painting on paper by LaFalle DuBou, signed LaFalle DuBou © lower right. The composition depicts two stylized figures drawn together in an intimate embrace, their faces and bodies rendered through bold, interlocking forms and sweeping curves. Brilliant shades of turquoise, violet, rose, yellow, green and red contrast dramatically against the darker background, creating a work with exceptional visual presence. Sight / Sheet: 12.75 × 9 in. Frame: 23 × 19 in. DuBou employs a richly textured surface with areas of heavy acrylic impasto and expressive brushwork, giving the composition considerable depth and tactile character. The closed eyes, touching faces and intertwined forms convey tenderness, affection and emotional connection, while the exaggerated palette gives the work a lively contemporary quality. The painting is mounted with the full sheet exposed, allowing the natural deckled and irregular edges of the paper to remain visible rather than being concealed beneath the mat. This presentation is generally described as a float mount or floated presentation, a particularly attractive method for works on paper because it emphasizes the physical character of the sheet itself. It is surrounded by a red accent border and broad textured black mat and presented in a substantial gilt frame. Information regarding LaFalle DuBou appears limited in readily accessible published references. The artist's distinctive work demonstrates a confident contemporary figurative style with a strong emphasis on color, texture and the human form. Condition: Very good overall condition. The acrylic retains strong, vibrant coloration, with the heavily textured surface presenting well. The visible irregularities and texture of the paper edges are consistent with the artist's materials and the intentionally floated presentation. Minor surface irregularities appear inherent to the artist's technique. Frame exhibits scattered rubbing and finish wear consistent with age and display. This auction house considers the photos to be the condition report.
