Jiang Tiefeng (Chinese, b. 1938), Sweet Lady – Purple, Limited Edition Serigraph on Canvas. Artwork: 14 × 14 in. Frame: 21 × 21 in. A striking limited-edition serigraph on canvas by noted Chinese-American artist Jiang Tiefeng (b. 1938), from his colorful Sweet Lady series. This example is the purple variation, artist signed in gold lower right and hand-numbered 140/250 lower left. The composition centers on an elegant female figure rendered in luminous shades of lavender, violet and blue, surrounded by Jiang's characteristic profusion of fantastical figures, animals, flowers and abstract forms. Her dramatically flowing black hair is intricately traced with metallic-gold lines and colorful jewel-like details, creating a beautiful contrast against the predominantly cool blue and purple palette. Sweeping linear elements weave throughout the composition, unifying the figure and background and producing the energetic, dreamlike quality associated with Jiang's work. Born in Ningbo, China, in 1938, Jiang Tiefeng studied at Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts and became a leading figure associated with the Yunnan School of Painting. His distinctive style blends traditional Chinese imagery and symbolism with modern abstraction, brilliant color and intricate linear pattern. After relocating to the United States in the 1980s, Jiang developed an international following for his paintings and limited-edition works. This beautifully presented example is housed in a substantial antiqued black-and-gold frame with linen liner and black inner molding. It is particularly desirable as a companion to the other Sweet Lady color variations, especially since the examples in this collection share the matching 140/250 edition number and coordinating frames. Condition: Artwork is in very good overall condition with strong, vibrant coloration. Close examination reveals minor scattered surface marks and fine scratches consistent with age and display. The frame exhibits minor rubbing, scuffs, finish loss and scattered abrasions, particularly to the gilt outer molding, as photographed. Overall the work remains exceptionally attractive and displays beautifully. This auction house considers the photos to be the condition report.
