Chinese Blue and White Dragon-Form Ewer with Applied Handles. Dimensions: 6.75 inches H × 6 inches W × 5 inches D. Chinese glazed stoneware or porcelain ewer / wine vessel of rounded pear form, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with iron-red accents. The body features a lively dragon amid scrolling floral and foliate decoration, surrounded by linear and paneled borders. The vessel is unusually modeled with a dark blue zoomorphic dragon- or beast-form spout, accompanied by four applied curled elements, and an opposing high loop handle embellished with molded scroll terminals. The short neck terminates in a broad flared rim. The combination of blue-and-white decoration, red accents, applied sculptural elements, and intentionally archaistic character is evocative of earlier Chinese ceramic traditions. The exposed foot and pottery body, somewhat freely painted decoration, construction, and glaze suggest a 20th-century Chinese archaistic decorative ewer, likely mid- to late 20th century, rather than an early Ming or Qing-period example. It may have been intended as a decorative interpretation of a traditional Chinese wine or water vessel. Condition: Overall good condition with age-appropriate wear, glaze and firing irregularities, scattered discoloration, and losses/wear to the glaze around the foot rim. Minor surface abrasions and imperfections are present. No major structural damage is readily apparent. Please view all photos for condition.
