Chinese glazed pottery figural ewer modeled as an elaborate phoenix or exotic bird, standing upon a circular pedestal base. The bird is richly molded with overlapping feathers, incised wings, prominent talons, stylized head and crest, and a long tail. A tall cylindrical pouring neck rises from the back, accompanied by a large loop handle terminating in applied bosses. Dimensions: 8.5 inches H × 4 inches W × 6 inches D. Decorated in a traditional sancai-style palette of amber-yellow, deep green, brown, cream, and dark glazes, with intentional crackling visible throughout. The form draws upon historic Chinese figural pouring vessels and would appropriately be cataloged as a wine ewer or ceremonial/decorative pouring vessel. The unglazed underside exposes a buff-colored pottery body. Based on the construction, glaze, modeling, and overall appearance, this appears to be a 20th-century Chinese archaistic decorative reproduction, probably mid- to late 20th century, inspired by earlier Chinese sancai pottery rather than a Tang-period vessel. Condition: Overall good condition with age-appropriate surface wear. There are noticeable glaze losses and chips around the lower edge of the pedestal base, along with scattered minor glaze losses and surface abrasions. Fine crazing/crackling is present throughout the glazed surfaces. Firing and glaze irregularities are consistent with the method of manufacture. Please view all photos for condition.
