This assortment of hand-carved tableware is constructed from a warm, dark-toned tropical hardwood. The collection includes a large circular serving bowl, several smaller individual bowls with carved feet, two leaf-shaped dishes with integral handles, a lidded vessel in the form of a turtle, and a matched serving fork and spoon set. Decorative elements consist of incised tropical floral and fruit motifs, including pineapples and hibiscus-style flowers. One leaf dish is carved with a bird, resembling a parrot or toucan. The incised details are accented with a darker stain to provide tonal contrast against the natural wood grain. The underside of one leaf-shaped dish bears the incised mark HAITI. Diameter of large bowl: approx. 26 cm Length of turtle vessel: approx. 13 cm Length of serving pieces: approx. 31 cm. Condition: The items show general surface wear, including light scratches and minor scuffs consistent with age and use. A notable crack is present on the rim of the large serving bowl, which shows evidence of a past adhesive repair. The small feet on several individual bowls show signs of historic stabilization or repair using small nails.
