A circular ceramic calendar plate for the year 1972, manufactured by Wedgwood. This item is identified as the second in a series of collector plates. The plate features a polychrome transfer-printed carousel theme centered on the year 1972 in a stylized typeface. This central motif is set against a radial sunburst of yellow and red-brown rays, encircled by twelve circular vignettes depicting the signs of the zodiac. The outer border presents the twelve calendar months for 1972, interspersed with detailed illustrations of various carousel animals, including horses, zebras, lions, and tigers, all decorated with ornate saddlery. The rim is finished with a thin gilt line. The plate is accompanied by its original presentation box and a descriptive leaflet. The box features a repeating blue and purple anthemion and palmette pattern. The leaflet identifies the piece as "The Wedgwood Calendar Plate for 1972." Dimensions: Presentation box approx. 26.7 cm x 26.7 cm. Condition: The plate is in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restoration. The transfer-printed decoration and gilt rim remain bright and intact. The original presentation box shows some signs of age, including edge wear, minor scuffing, and a light stain to the lower corner of the lid.
