A mid-20th-century rectangular cigarette case constructed from silver-toned metal with a faux tortoiseshell veneer. The exterior displays a mottled amber and brown pattern in imitation of natural tortoiseshell. The case is hinged along one edge and opens to reveal an interior with a decorative engine-turned perlage finish. Two spring-loaded, open-work metal retainer clips are mounted to the interior. The design and construction are in the style of cigarette cases produced by Marathon. Dimensions: approx. 11 cm x 8.2 cm. Condition: The item is in poor condition. There is extensive loss and peeling of the faux tortoiseshell veneer on both the front and back surfaces, as well as along the edges, exposing the silver-toned base metal underneath. The metal surfaces exhibit surface scratching and light oxidation consistent with age. The hinge and internal retainer clips remain functional.
