An assortment of two mid-20th-century publications. The first is a hardcover edition of the People's Friend Annual. The front cover features a color illustration of a couple walking a Scottish Terrier. The back cover contains a full-page color advertisement for Oxydol soap powder featuring Mrs. Doris Harrison. The interior includes short stories and illustrations by J. Campbell Kerr, such as a sketch of the Flora Macdonald statue in Inverness. A handwritten ink inscription on the front flyleaf reads, Love from auntie Jessie. The second item is a Dean's Rag Book titled Hallo, Neddy! This fabric book is constructed from printed cloth with pinked edges. Illustrations depict various farm animals including a donkey, rooster, ducks, terrier, and rabbits. The front cover bears the publisher mark for Dean's Rag Book Co., Ltd. London, with the logo of two dogs and the number 312. The text Washable and Hygienic is printed at the bottom. The interior is marked Made in England. Dimensions (measured against a ruler): People's Friend Annual: approx. H 21.6 cm x W 15.2 cm Dean's Rag Book: approx. H 21.6 cm x W 16.5 cm. Condition: The People's Friend Annual exhibits rubbing to the cover edges and corners with significant paper loss along the length of the spine. Interior pages show toning and an ink inscription to the flyleaf. The Dean's Rag Book displays fraying to the fabric edges and light soiling to the cloth consistent with age and handling.
