Autographed 1990 TV Sports Mailbag #35 Lou Boudreau MLB Hall Of Fame Induction 8X10 Stat Sheet (Limited Edition). A limited edition commemorative piece honoring one of the greatest shortstops and player managers in Major League Baseball history. Boudreau enjoyed a 15 season Major League career from 1938 through 1952, spending his first 13 seasons with Cleveland before concluding his playing career with the Boston Red Sox, and finished with 1,779 hits, 385 doubles, 789 RBI and a .295 lifetime batting average while earning eight All Star selections. Remarkably, Boudreau became player manager of the Indians at just 24 years old, simultaneously handling the demanding responsibilities of managing a Major League club while remaining one of the game's premier shortstops. His masterpiece came in 1948, when Boudreau batted .355 with 199 hits, 45 doubles, 18 home runs and 106 RBI, captured the American League Most Valuable Player Award, and guided Cleveland to the World Series championship, a title that remains the franchise's most recent World Series victory. During the crucial one game playoff against the Boston Red Sox for the 1948 American League pennant, Boudreau delivered one of the defining performances of his career with two home runs as Cleveland advanced to the World Series. A brilliant defensive strategist as well, Boudreau became closely associated with the famous "Boudreau Shift," an extreme defensive alignment employed against the powerful Ted Williams that helped popularize strategic defensive shifting decades before it became commonplace in modern baseball. He later managed the Red Sox, Kansas City Athletics and Chicago Cubs and became a beloved longtime broadcaster in Chicago. Boudreau was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1970, and his No. 5 was retired by Cleveland in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the franchise. He passed away in 2001 at the age of 84, permanently limiting the supply of authentic material signed during his lifetime.
