Issued in two distinct designs celebrating Morgan's induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the stat sheets commemorate the extraordinary career of the dynamic Cincinnati Reds superstar who became one of the driving forces behind the legendary Big Red Machine. Morgan enjoyed a remarkable 22 season Major League career from 1963 through 1984, finishing with 2,517 hits, 268 home runs, 1,133 RBI, 1,865 walks and 689 stolen bases, while combining power, speed, exceptional plate discipline and outstanding defense in a manner rarely seen at second base. He earned 10 All Star selections and five consecutive Gold Glove Awards, but the defining stretch of his career came in 1975 and 1976, when Morgan captured back to back National League Most Valuable Player Awards while leading Cincinnati to consecutive World Series championships. Morgan was particularly brilliant during the 1976 World Series, batting .333 as the Reds swept the New York Yankees to complete one of the most dominant championship seasons in baseball history. His combination of on base ability and baserunning made him a constant threat, and his 689 career stolen bases remain among the highest totals ever recorded. After beginning his career with the Houston Colt .45s and Astros, Morgan's arrival in Cincinnati before the 1972 season helped transform an already talented Reds club into a dynasty alongside Johnny Bench, Pete Rose, Tony Perez and their celebrated teammates. Morgan was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1990, making these TV Sports Mailbag issues from the very year of his Cooperstown induction especially desirable commemoratives, while his iconic No. 8 was later retired by the Cincinnati Reds. Morgan passed away in 2020 at the age of 77, permanently limiting the supply of authentic material signed during his lifetime.
