One of the premier power hitters of his generation, Mize led the National League in home runs four times, RBI three times and slugging percentage four times, while earning 10 All Star selections. In 1947 he belted a career high 51 home runs for the Giants, and the following season he became the first player in Major League history to hit 50 home runs while striking out fewer than 50 times, an extraordinary testament to his rare combination of tremendous power and exceptional bat control. Late in his career, Mize joined the powerhouse Yankees and contributed to five consecutive World Series championship teams from 1949 through 1953, giving him an important place within one of baseball's greatest dynasties. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981, cementing his legacy among the greatest first basemen and sluggers in baseball history. Mize passed away in 1993 at the age of 80, permanently limiting the supply of authentic material signed during his lifetime.
