Renowned for his commanding presence, booming voice and exceptional judgment behind the plate, Barlick was selected to officiate seven World Series and seven All Star Games, placing him on the field for many of baseball's most important moments across several decades. Among the historic contests he worked was Game 1 of the 1956 World Series, serving as the left field umpire during the opening game of the series that would soon produce Don Larsen's legendary perfect game. Following his retirement from active umpiring, Barlick remained closely involved with the sport as an umpire scout and supervisor, helping evaluate and develop future generations of Major League officials. His extraordinary career was recognized with election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989, making this TV Sports Mailbag issue from the very year of his Cooperstown induction an especially appropriate commemorative. Barlick passed away in 1995 at the age of 80, permanently limiting the supply of authentic material signed during his lifetime.
