The Royal Canadian Mint Calgary 1988 Olympic Winter Games $20 sterling silver proof pair, one showing a two-man bobsled, the other a ski jumper. Both are deep mirror proofs with heavily frosted devices; a small orange-tan speck sits near the Queen's crown on one obverse. The coins are dated CANADA 1987; 1988 appears only in the Calgary Games legend on the reverse, which is normal here. Here is the part most bidders get wrong. Sterling is .925 fine, so buyers assume less than an ounce of silver. These were struck oversized on purpose so each holds exactly one full troy ounce of pure silver, and the certificate says so in print. The pair holds 2.00 troy ounces, roughly $132 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot first. Complete with both capsules, the case, certificate and outer sleeve; the sleeve is soiled and bumped and the case medallion shows fine hairlines. This is a two-coin piece of a ten-coin program, so there is no set-completion premium. Estimated Value: $110 to $145. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
