1887 Morgan Silver Dollar Philadelphia

A 90 percent silver Morgan dollar dated 1887, with the space below the wreath bow empty, so this is a Philadelphia coin. The coin is frosty white with full luster and no toning. Hair over the ear and the cotton bolls are fully struck and the eagle's breast is complete with only the faintest rub, while the fields carry light bagmarks, most noticeably on the cheek and jaw. A short dark toning streak crosses the eagle's wing. The brightness reads as natural frost, not the flat look of a cleaned coin, though a dip cannot be ruled out. The flip is marked ChBu, graded Choice Brilliant Uncirculated by the consignor. This coin is raw and has not been certified by PCGS or NGC, so the grade reflects the consignor's opinion. It holds 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, roughly $51 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. Philadelphia struck over 20 million dollars in 1887 and bags sat in Treasury vaults for decades, which is why the date is affordable. Estimated Value: $55 to $75. Sold as-is.
