A Lincoln wheat cent whose date reads 1912, with the 1, 9 and 1 clear and the final 2 soft. The consignor's flip claims an S. A small raised mark sits in the correct spot below the date, but the letter itself is not legible, so the S cannot be confirmed from the photographs. A mark of some kind is there, so this is not a Philadelphia coin, but whether it is a D or an S cannot be resolved. The close-up is soft and dark exactly at that spot, and a re-shoot with raking light would be needed to settle it. The coin is heavily and evenly worn but complete. Cheek, jaw and lapel are smooth, hair detail survives only behind the ear, LIBERTY is fully readable. Reverse wheat ears are worn flat on the inner stalks with all lettering readable. Very dark chocolate brown, with dust in the flip window. No verdigris, no corrosion, no scratches, rims intact. The coin is graded F by the consignor. This coin is raw and has not been certified by PCGS or NGC, so the grade reflects the consignor's opinion. Estimated Value: $12 to $25. Sold as-is.
