A 90 percent silver Walking Liberty half dollar dated 1919, all four digits bold in the exergue, with a clear D mint mark on the reverse at the lower left below the pine branch. Unlike the companion Walker in this sale, this coin shows its date plainly. Liberty's gown keeps partial drapery lines in the lower folds while the hand, head and body high points are worn smooth; IN GOD WE TRUST is complete and the peripheral LIBERTY letters read though weak at the left. The reverse eagle holds partial leg and wing feather detail with a flat breast and complete lettering. Toning is even medium gray with darker gray-brown in the recesses. There is no corrosion, no scratches, no rim damage and no cleaning brightness. It is graded Vg+ by the consignor. This coin is raw and has not been certified by PCGS or NGC, so the grade reflects the consignor's opinion. Bidders should know 1919-D is the toughest Walking Liberty half to find well struck. Silver runs about $23.85 near $66 an ounce. Estimated Value: $45 to $80. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
