A 90 percent silver Morgan dollar dated 1902 with a sharp O mint mark on the reverse below the wreath bow, marking it a New Orleans issue. The coin is brilliant white, frosty and fully lustrous, with full hair over the ear, complete cotton bolls, a bold LIBERTY on the headband, and full breast and leg feathers on the reverse eagle. A few faint hairlines and small contact marks sit in the obverse field near the cheek and jaw. There is no toning of note, no rim damage and no corrosion, and it presents as uncirculated. The consignor wrote MS65 on the flip. Stated plainly: the coin is graded MS65 by the consignor, it is raw and has not been certified by PCGS or NGC, so the grade reflects the consignor's opinion. Useful history: most surviving 1902-O dollars sat in Treasury vaults until the great releases of the early 1960s, so uncirculated examples are common despite the New Orleans mint mark. It holds 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, about $51 near $66 an ounce. Estimated Value: $55 to $80. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
