A 90 percent silver 1927-S Standing Liberty quarter, the key date of the series. The date is bold and complete and the S mint mark is clearly visible on the obverse pedestal to the left of it. The M on the other side of the date is the designer's monogram. Three stars sit below the reverse eagle, the Type II design used from late 1917 onward. Gown drapery is partly visible, the head and shield high point are worn, and all lettering is complete. Surfaces are even medium gray with light toning and a small dark speck in the lower reverse field. Dried paper residue clings to the cardboard beside the window, not to the coin. It is graded F+ by the consignor. This coin is raw and has not been certified by PCGS or NGC, so the grade reflects the consignor's opinion. Two things bidders should know: 1927-S has the second lowest mintage in the series, and it is one of the most counterfeited US quarters, usually by adding an S to a common date.
