(5) 1776-1976-D Bicentennial Halves Hairlined

Five Kennedy Bicentennial half dollars, all dated 1776-1976 with a legible D below the neck truncation on each. All five are copper-nickel clad. There is no silver in this lot and no melt value. Four show full detail with minimal wear: one satiny with light tan toning and tan specks at the left rim and jaw, one brighter and cleaner with light ticks, one lightly gray toned, and one with light hairlines and a small dark speck in the left field. The fifth is the problem. It is covered in a dense network of fine hairline scratches across the obverse field and portrait with a dull gray-tan surface, and in the reverse group shot one coin shows heavy hairlines while another is noticeably darker and duller than the rest. Those surfaces show hairlines consistent with an old cleaning, and PCGS or NGC would return such a coin as details rather than a straight grade. Denver alone struck more than 500 million Bicentennial halves, so condition, not date, is the whole story. Estimated Value: $5 to $9. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
