(5) 1776-1976-D Bicentennial Halves Satin

Five Kennedy Bicentennial half dollars, all dated 1776-1976 and all struck at Denver, with the D legible below the neck truncation in each close-up. These are copper-nickel clad, not silver. The photographs show nickel-gray surfaces, not the white of a silver coin, and there is no melt story here. All five show full detail with little or no high-point wear and muted satin luster under light gray-tan toning. Disclosed: one coin has small tan specks in the left field and on the neck, one shows light gray-brown toning with small ticks, two are brighter with light hairlines and small contact marks, and in the group reverse photograph the upper-left coin shows fine hairlines across the field. All five reverses show complete Independence Hall detail. Worth carrying: no half dollar is dated 1975. The Mint jumped straight to the 1776-1976 dual date and struck it for two years, which is why these are so common. The 40 percent silver Bicentennial halves carry an S and came only in collector sets. Estimated Value: $5 to $10. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
