1969-D Kennedy Half Dollar 40 Percent Silver

A 1969-D Kennedy half dollar in 40 percent silver clad from the Denver Mint. The D is visible below the neck truncation and reads clearly in the second obverse photograph. Note that the consignor listing called this a 1969-P. There is no such coin. Philadelphia struck no half dollars for circulation in 1969, so every business strike Kennedy half of that year is a Denver coin, and this one shows the D to prove it. Condition, honestly: detail is full with essentially no wear, but the coin is heavily toned. Both sides carry dull golden-brown to olive toning with darker charcoal patches on the cheek, jaw, neck and along the hair, numerous dark specks on the obverse, and mottled darker areas on a tan-brown reverse with no bright luster left. No green corrosion or damage was seen, and the reverse photograph is dim and slightly soft. The coin holds about 0.1479 troy ounces of pure silver, roughly $9.75 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. Estimated Value: $10 to $14. Sold as-is.
