1964 Kennedy Half 90 Percent Silver Bright BU

A 1964 Kennedy half dollar, the only year this type was struck in 90 percent silver. No mint mark is present. On a 1964 half the mark sits on the reverse below the eagle's tail feathers, and that area is in focus and empty, so this is a Philadelphia coin; the obverse position was not used until 1968. The coin is uncirculated or very close, with full hair strands and sharp eagle feathers, bright silver white surfaces carrying a light gray gold cast and faint tan at the rims. A few tiny ticks show in the obverse field. No wear breaks, corrosion or scratches. It holds about 0.3617 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $23.85 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. The Kennedy half went from proposal to production in about four months after the assassination, and the public hoarded it so hard that most 1964 halves never saw real circulation.
