1966 Kennedy Half 40 Percent Silver AU to BU

A 1966 Kennedy half dollar in 40 percent silver clad. The date reads clearly on the closer obverse view, and the spot below the neck truncation is empty, correct for a year when the Mint used no mint marks at all. The coin grades about uncirculated to uncirculated, with hair detail largely full and only slight rub on the highest hair points and the cheekbone. Light golden tan toning covers both sides, with dull gray brown patches on the cheek and jaw and small dark flecks scattered across the obverse. The reverse is lustrous with tan toning at the rim. No scratches and no corrosion seen. It holds 0.1479 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $9.75 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. In 1966 the Mint was still fighting the coin shortage and had been striking 1964 dated coins well past 1964, which is why coin dates and production years do not line up in this era.
