A 1967 Kennedy half dollar in 40 percent silver clad. The date is clear and no mint mark appears below the neck truncation, which is correct for 1967, when Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco all struck without mint marks. The coin is brilliant uncirculated with full hair detail, frosty white to pale gold surfaces and strong luster. Two things to disclose: a very small green speck at the left rim between the L and the I of LIBERTY, and a couple of tiny tan flecks on the cheek and in the right field. Green on a coin can grow in damp storage, so keep this one dry. The reverse is clean and lustrous with light gold at the rims. It holds 0.1479 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $9.75 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. Collectors should know 1967 was the last year of the Special Mint Set, the stopgap the Mint issued from 1965 to 1967 after suspending proof coinage to free up presses. Estimated Value: $10 to $14.
