A Barber dime in 90 percent silver, the type Charles Barber designed and the Mint struck from 1892 to 1916. The date needs plain talk: the digits are worn and mushy, and while they read as 1901 the 9 and the 0 are soft, so the date should be confirmed in hand before anyone pays a date premium. The mint mark position below the wreath bow on the reverse is worn flat and dark, so no mint can be assigned from these photographs. The coin is very heavily circulated. Liberty's face is nearly smooth, LIBERTY on the headband is entirely gone, the legend is only partly readable, and the bottom third of the reverse has worn into the rim. Toning is mottled dark gray brown with porous granular patches. A 90 percent dime holds about $4.75 in silver at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. Barber's design sat low in the die and wore fast, which is why so many survivors look like this one. Estimated Value: $6 to $10. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
