An 1889 Indian Head cent in bronze from the Philadelphia Mint. All four date digits read clearly in both obverse photographs. No mint mark appears below the wreath, and none should: the only Indian cents ever struck outside Philadelphia are the 1908-S and 1909-S. The coin appears to grade about good to very good. LIBERTY on the headband has worn away and the feather tips are outlined but flat, while the reverse wreath is smooth on the high points and ONE CENT stands full and clear. Color is even medium brown with a slightly darker patch on the reverse right side, and the reverse rim is a touch soft at the bottom. No verdigris, no corrosion and no sign of cleaning, which matters more on old copper than most bidders expect. Bronze has no melt value to quote. Philadelphia struck roughly 48.9 million cents in 1889, so this is a common date and the appeal here is honest, problem free surfaces. Estimated Value: $3 to $6. Sold as-is.
