A 90 percent silver Morgan dollar from the New Orleans Mint. The O mint mark sits on the reverse below the wreath bow, between ONE and DOLLAR, and it is sharply struck. The date is crisp. The coin appears to grade about extremely fine: the hair over the ear and forehead is flat in places but most strands survive, the cotton bolls and cap are complete, and the eagle keeps full wing feathers with a smooth breast. Color is light natural gray with a golden tan edge on the reverse. Scattered small contact marks show in the obverse fields and on the cheek, along with a few fine hairlines on the cheek and neck. No corrosion, no rim damage. The coin holds 0.7734 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $51 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. New Orleans was pressing worn dies at low pressure in 1891, so these dollars are known for soft centers that newer collectors mistake for wear. Estimated Value: $65 to $95. Sold as-is.
