A 90 percent silver Franklin half dollar. No mint mark is present; the spot above the bell beam on the reverse is in focus and empty, which makes this a Philadelphia coin. The date is clear. It appears to grade about very fine to extremely fine, with rub on Franklin's cheek and the hair above the ear, a soft shoulder truncation, and the bottom bell lines mostly worn away, though the crack and the yoke stay visible. Light silver gray with faint gold at the reverse rim, a few small ticks in the obverse field and one small nick on the jaw. No corrosion and no sign of cleaning. It holds about 0.3617 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $23.85 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. The Franklin half ran only from 1948 to 1963 before the Kennedy design replaced it, one of the shortest lives of any modern US type, and Franklin is one of the few men on regular US coinage who never served as president.
