A 90 percent silver Walking Liberty half dollar, with Liberty striding toward the sunrise on the obverse and HALF DOLLAR on the reverse. Please note this lot was first listed as a Standing Liberty quarter. It is a half dollar, the larger and heavier coin, so the correction runs in the bidder's favor. The date reads 1929 and the S mint mark is legible at the reverse lower left, below the pine sapling. It grades about very fine: the head, hand and leading knee are worn while skirt lines and drapery remain, and the eagle has a smooth breast with good leg and lower wing feathers. Medium gray toning with olive brown patches in the left obverse field, dull tan spotting on the reverse, scattered small nicks, no corrosion or rim damage. It holds about 0.3617 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $23.85 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, so check spot before you bid. The Mint struck no halves at all in 1922 or from 1924 to 1926, so 1927 to 1929 is a short window, and the 1929-S came to just 1,902,000 coins. Estimated Value: $28 to $45. Sold as-is.
