A 1904 Indian Head cent in bronze, struck at Philadelphia. The date is clear on both obverse views. No mint mark appears below the wreath and none is expected, since only the 1908-S and 1909-S Indian cents carry one. The coin appears to grade about good to very good: LIBERTY on the headband is not readable, the portrait and feathers are complete but flat, and the reverse wreath is worn on the high points with ONE CENT full. Color is medium brown and slightly glossy. Two or three very small green specks sit along the left obverse rim and near the upper right rim; they are minor and localized rather than spreading, but green on copper can grow in damp storage, so keep the coin dry. Copper has no melt story. By 1904 this design was near the end of a fifty year run; the Lincoln cent replaced it in 1909 for Lincoln's centennial and became the first circulating US coin to carry the portrait of a real person.
