A 1934 Walking Liberty half dollar in 90 percent silver from Philadelphia. The mint mark position at the reverse lower left, below the pine sapling, is in focus and empty. Detail runs about very fine to extremely fine, with the head and hand worn but the gown lines over the leading leg and the full sun rays present. The problems are real. The reverse carries straight diagonal scratches that cross the eagle's breast and near wing, so they are damage rather than die polish. The obverse rim shows nicks at the upper left, upper right and lower left. The surfaces are bright and a bit flat and show hairlines consistent with an old cleaning; PCGS and NGC would return a coin like this in a details holder rather than give it a straight grade. It holds about 0.3617 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $23.85 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, so check spot before you bid. Weinman's design stood so high in relief that the Mint never struck it fully. Estimated Value: $24 to $30. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
