A vintage sterling silver powder compact by Birks. The compact is of rectangular form with bowed sides, the front cover decorated with hand-engraved foliate scrollwork surrounding a central five-petalled flower head. The reverse is plain and bears the stamped marks BIRKS and STERLING. The interior opens to reveal a circular glass mirror and contains a fabric powder puff and sifter. Gross weight: 71 g Dimensions: approx. 7.0 cm x 6.7 cm. Condition: The reverse displays significant surface scratching and tarnish throughout. The engraved front shows light wear commensurate with age. The interior mirror is intact and the hinge is functional. The fabric puff and sifter show signs of use and discolouration.
