A mid-20th century windproof cigarette lighter produced by the Zippo Manufacturing Company Canada, Ltd. at their Niagara Falls, Ontario facility. The front of the lighter features an etched and gold-tone filled heraldic crest for the Dominion Coal Co. Ltd., a significant Canadian mining firm. The crest includes a shield decorated with fleur-de-lis, bisected by a diagonal banner containing the company name, and topped with a crest depicting a forearm holding an anchor. The reverse of the case is etched with a personalised cursive signature reading Dave Healey. The base is stamped with manufacturer and location marks: ZIPPO MFG. CO. CANADA, LTD., NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO, ZIPPO, and PATENTED 1950. The internal insert is present and features a 16-hole chimney. Width: approx. 3.7 cm. Condition: The lighter is in well-used vintage condition. The exterior shows significant surface wear, including widespread fine scratches, pitting, and prominent brassing where the chrome plating has worn through to the base metal, particularly at the edges and over the front motif. The internal insert exhibits heavy carbon deposits and oxidation; the flint wheel has visible surface rust. The hinge remains functional but shows mechanical play consistent with age and use.
