Two pieces of pottery sold together. (1) A small white stoneware crock with a single raised band around the upper body, about six and a half inches across the top and four inches tall. The glaze is cream white with the tan clay body showing through around the rim, and there is rust colored staining and flaking along the rim edge and around the foot. The bottom is unglazed and carries no maker mark, no stamp, and no size number, which is normal on plain utility crocks. (2) A white ceramic novelty mug with a paneled lower body and the words Polish Mug painted on the side in heavy black Old English lettering. The blue oval foil sticker on the underside reads Made in Japan, placing it in the postwar novelty ware era. The mug foot rim shows grime and a small chip at one edge. Condition on both pieces is fair to good with honest age and use. Unmarked crocks sell for a fraction of what a stamped and decorated crock brings, so buy for the look and usefulness, not as a marked collector piece. Estimated Value: $20 to $40 based on comparable recent sales. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot. Written descriptions are a guide only and may contain errors.
