Bob White Archie "Call Me Hemperfield" Original Story Layouts – 4 Preliminary Pages (Pages 2-5) Rare group of four vintage original Archie Comics preliminary story layout pages attributed to longtime Archie artist Bob White, originating directly from material recovered from the Bob White storage collection. Each page bears the handwritten notation “A – Call Me Hemperfield” followed by a circled “6,” apparently identifying the story/project and possibly its intended six-page length. The surviving sheets shown are individually numbered 2 through 5, representing four consecutive pages from the story. Unlike conventional finished comic-book artwork, these sheets represent a very early stage of the comic-production process. Executed lightly in graphite, Bob White lays out the panel compositions, character positions, action, dialogue-balloon placement and overall storytelling before development into finished pencils and inks. Figures range from simple construction forms and circles to more developed poses, providing an unusually direct look at the artist’s method of constructing an Archie story from its earliest visual conception. Although deliberately rudimentary in appearance, recognizable Archie Comics content is present throughout; most notably, “JUGHEAD!” is written prominently within the final panel of page 4. Research has thus far not located a documented published Archie story under the title “Call Me Hemperfield.” The exact publication status and ultimate disposition of the story therefore remain unknown, and the group is conservatively offered as possibly unpublished/pre-production Archie Comics material. An unusual piece of Archie Comics production history and an especially interesting companion to finished and partially finished Bob White artwork, showing a stage of comic-book creation that was generally discarded once the finished artwork had been produced. Provenance: From material originating from the Bob White storage collection. Includes four original preliminary layout pages, numbered 2, 3, 4 and 5. Pages exhibit expected age and studio/storage wear including toning, edge wear, staining/foxing and other imperfections as photographed. Please review all images for condition.
