1967 Bob White Attributed Archie Comics "Swell Smell!" Original Preliminary Layout Art Original vintage 1967 Archie Comics preliminary/layout artwork attributed to Bob White, created for an Archie story titled “Swell Smell!” The sheet is prominently headed “Archie in ‘Swell Smell!’” and bears the handwritten date “JAN. 20, 1967” at the top, providing an unusually specific production date for the piece. This surviving preliminary page represents an early stage of the comic-production process. The panel structure, story title, dialogue balloons and lettering have been laid out in pencil, while the character artwork was apparently never developed beyond this preliminary stage. The dialogue features Archie, Betty and Jughead, beginning with Betty searching Riverdale for Jughead and continuing with a gag involving ground meat and an electric pan. The final portion includes the line “One Jughead coming up!” before concluding with “THE END.” This piece originates from the same collection of original Bob White/Archie production material and is therefore attributed to Bob White based upon its provenance. The sheet itself is not visibly signed. An interesting piece of surviving Archie Comics production history, particularly desirable for its clearly written January 20, 1967 date, identifiable story title, Jughead-related dialogue and unfinished developmental nature. Condition: Vintage working production artwork with age toning, scattered staining/discoloration, handling wear and edge/corner wear. The sheet remains deliberately unfinished, with little to no developed character artwork in several panels. Please review photographs carefully. Attribution/Provenance: Attributed to Bob White based upon provenance and its presence within the same collection of Bob White/Archie production artwork. Unsigned.
