Bob White Reggie "Tall Paul" Original Archie Comic Art w/ Love Chain Reference – Possibly Unpublished Fascinating vintage original Archie Comics artwork by noted Archie artist Bob White, featuring a complete one-page Reggie story titled "Reggie in Tall Paul.? The piece originates directly from material recovered from Bob White’s personal storage collection. The story features Reggie Mantle, Leslie and Paul and revolves around the period fad of making “love chains? from folded chewing-gum wrappers. Leslie explains that a girl makes a chain as long as her boyfriend is tall, prompting Reggie to grab the chain—with humorous results culminating in the story’s final “THE END? panel. Of particular interest, preserved alongside the original artwork is Bob White’s period reference material concerning the real-life “love chain? fad, including a clipped printed article titled “MAKING ‘LOVE CHAINS’? explaining the practice. Also retained with the artwork is an actual length of folded gum-wrapper chain, providing a remarkable connection between White’s source material and the finished comic concept. The original comic page combines a finished REGGIE title/logo paste-up and production lettering with extensive original graphite pencil artwork, allowing the viewer to see White’s underlying drawing process in considerable detail. Research has thus far failed to identify a published appearance of this particular “Tall Paul? story. Given its unfinished pencil-production state, its survival among Bob White’s personal stored artwork and reference material, and the absence of a presently identified publication, the piece is conservatively offered as possibly unpublished Bob White Archie Comics artwork. An unusually complete piece of comic-production history, particularly desirable because the original artwork, contemporary source clipping and physical gum-wrapper reference material have remained together. Artwork and accompanying materials exhibit expected signs of age, storage and production use, including toning, discoloration, handling wear, adhesive/paste-up characteristics and other age-related imperfections.
