Bob White Archie "Dog-Gone!" Complete 6-Page Original Comic Art Story – Possibly Unpublished c. 1960s Rare and highly interesting complete 6-page Archie original comic art story attributed to noted Archie artist Bob White, titled "Dog-Gone!?? Dating stylistically to approximately the 1960s, this complete story features Archie Andrews and Reggie Mantle in a classic Riverdale gag involving a young boy and his supposedly "invisible dog.?? The story begins when the boy tells Archie and Reggie that an invisible dog is attached to the end of his empty leash. Reggie becomes increasingly fascinated by the claim, eventually paying the boy five dollars for the mysterious animal, leading to a series of classic Archie sight gags and a humorous conclusion. All six consecutive original art pages are present, including the illustrated title page and final “The End?? panel. Particularly fascinating is the artwork’s unfinished production state. Portions of the story are fully rendered in finished ink, while numerous figures, backgrounds and even entire sections remain visible in Bob White’s underlying graphite pencil work. The later pages become progressively less inked, offering an unusual look at the working process behind a vintage Archie story. This artwork originates from material recovered from Bob White’s personal storage unit, where it was discovered among additional artwork and paintings by White, including signed examples. Extensive research has thus far failed to identify a published appearance of this particular six-page “Dog-Gone!?? story. Several different Archie-family stories were published under the same or similar title; however, the examples located feature different plots, characters, page counts and/or artists and do not correspond to the present artwork. Combined with its direct Bob White provenance and conspicuously unfinished pencil-and-ink production state, this raises the intriguing possibility that “Dog-Gone!?? was an unfinished and ultimately unpublished Archie story retained by Bob White. Its unpublished status has not been definitively established, however, and the work is therefore conservatively offered as possibly unpublished. A particularly compelling piece of vintage Archie history and an unusual opportunity to acquire an intact six-page Bob White Archie story directly originating from the artist’s stored material, rather than an individual production page. Artwork exhibits expected signs of age, storage and the original comic-production process, including toning, handling wear, graphite construction lines, corrections, partially completed inks and other production-related characteristics. Please examine photographs carefully for condition. Provenance: From material originating from the Bob White storage unit/collection. Includes all 6 original sequential pages and is offered together as one complete story.
