Heinrich Handwerck & Simon & Halbig Socket Head

An antique German socket head doll produced through the collaboration of Heinrich Handwerck and Simon & Halbig. The bisque head features brown glass sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, and multi-stroke feathered eyebrows. The mouth is open to reveal four small porcelain upper teeth, and the ears are pierced, currently fitted with red bead earrings. The head is marked with the incised manufacturers names and the size 4 1/2. The doll is mounted on a fully jointed composition and wood body which bears the red Heinrich Handwerck stamp on the lower back. This doll is accompanied by an assortment of period clothing, including two white lawn dresses with extensive eyelet embroidery and lace trim, one matching sleeveless slip, and a pair of brown leather-style lace-up shoes. 28 inches. This doll displays expected wear consistent with its age. The bisque head is in good order, and the sleep eye mechanism is functional. The composition body shows typical surface finish loss and cracking to the paint. The lower legs have been color-matched through precise restoration to stabilize the finish. The clothing and shoes show light signs of age but remain well-preserved.
