Effanbee Anne Shirley & Unmarked Mid-Century Compo

This lot includes a pair of vintage composition character dolls. The first is a marked Effanbee Anne Shirley doll featuring a jointed composition body and head. The nape of the neck is incised with the maker's mark Effanbee Anne Shirley. She has a restyled voluminous dark brown wig with a red ribbon and blue sleep eyes with eyelashes. She is dressed in her original pink corduroy dress with colorful floral embroidery on the sleeves and skirt, featuring a white ruffled collar and newly added red patent leatherette Mary Jane shoes. The second doll is a 19-inch unmarked mid-century girl doll with a jointed composition body. She features a blonde curled wig and blue-green sleep eyes. Her open mouth reveals two upper teeth and a felt tongue. She is dressed in a white floral print organza floor-length party gown with a pink satin ribbon sash. Height: 21 inches & 19 inches. Both dolls present with expected age-related wear. There is characteristic surface crazing throughout the composition bodies and faces as is common for dolls of this period. Minor paint loss is visible on the extremities and fingertips. The clothing and wigs show gentle play wear and remains in good displayable condition.
