C.M. Bergmann & Simon & Halbig German Character

This antique German doll features a bisque socket head produced by Simon & Halbig for C.M. Bergmann. The reverse of the head is incised with the marks M. BERGMANN, SIMON & HALBIG, and the size 13 1/2. The head is detailed with brown glass sleep eyes, feathered eyebrows, painted lower lashes, and an open mouth with four upper teeth. The doll wears a long dark brown synthetic wig with bangs and curls. The fully jointed composition and wood body is paired with a two piece white cotton chemise and bloomer set featuring lace trim. Additional clothing includes a brown floral print cotton dress with lace accents and tan buckle shoes with dark socks. 29 inches. The bisque head remains in good overall condition with some minor wig glue residue. The weighted sleep eyes are functional. The composition body shows expected age related surface wear including crazing and paint chipping at the joints. The right hand is missing a thumb, and the internal stringing has loosened slightly over time.
