Large Heinrich Handwerck #109 Bisque Socket Head

This large antique Heinrich Handwerck mold #109 bisque socket head doll is mounted on a fully jointed composition and wood body. The back of the head is clearly incised with marks including 109 - 15 1/2, HANDWERCK, Germany, and the size mark 6 1/2. The doll is designed with brown glass sleep eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, feathered eyebrows, and an open mouth with four inset upper teeth and painted lips. It features a replacement dark brown human hair wig with a label reading cheveux naturels made in France. The doll is dressed in a replacement plaid smocked dress with red embroidery and trim, white cotton lace-trimmed pantaloons, black knit socks, and black leather tie shoes. The doll has undergone some professional restoration and the body has been restrung. Height: 28 inches. The doll is in good overall condition with expected age-related wear. The bisque head remains in good condition. The composition and wood body shows characteristic crazing and some minor finish chips at the joint areas, consistent with age. The doll has been restrung and shows signs of previous restoration to maintain its integrity for display.
