This oil on canvas painting depicts two individuals seated at a circular yellow bistro table, rendered in a Post-Impressionist style. The composition is defined by a heavy impasto technique, featuring rhythmic, scale-like brushwork that creates a significant surface texture throughout. The figure on the left is shown in profile dressed in a green jacket and a brown hat, while the figure on the right faces the viewer in a blue suit and hat, holding a glass. A dark brown bottle and a second glass rest on the table between them. The work is signed W. MAHDY in the lower right corner. It is housed in a substantial, multi-layered decorative frame with gilded and dark brown finishes, which bears a stamp on the reverse reading MADE IN BRAZIL. The canvas is fixed to a wooden stretcher with keys, which is inscribed with the numbers 20x24, 79, and 60, alongside the initials MA. Dimensions: approx. H 68.5 cm x W 80 cm (outer frame, read from tape showing inches only); Canvas 50.8 cm x 61 cm (from verso inscription). Condition: The painting exhibits extensive craquelure throughout the thick impasto, particularly visible in the lighter background and flesh tones. There is a general accumulation of surface dirt and dust across the front. The reverse of the canvas shows several areas of foxing and minor brown staining. The ornate frame displays some light surface wear and minor rubbing to the gilded sections.
