This oil painting on stretched canvas is by the Dutch artist Pieter Stekhuizen (1893-1975). The work depicts a wooded landscape in autumn, featuring a stream flowing through the centre of the composition towards the viewer. The artist has employed an impressionistic style with expressive impasto brushwork, particularly evident in the golden and brown foliage and the light reflecting on the water's surface. The signature P. Stekhuizen is located in the lower-left corner. The painting is housed in a heavy, ornate swept gilt frame decorated with scrolling foliate corner and centre ornaments. The verso of the work shows the canvas mounted on a wooden stretcher, with some faint and illegible handwritten markings on the lower rail. Framed height approx. 51 cm Framed width approx. 70 cm (Dimensions determined from a visible tape measure shown in centimetres). Condition: The painting appears to be in good overall condition with stable pigment and no visible repairs to the canvas. The ornate gilt frame shows significant age-related craquelure throughout the gesso and gilded surface. There are some minor losses and chips to the decorative ornaments on the frame, consistent with its age.
