A Tonalist oil painting on canvas depicting an atmospheric river landscape at twilight. The composition features the soft silhouettes of trees and small cottages with glowing windows, all reflected in the still water of a river beneath a heavy, overcast sky. The work is rendered in a muted palette of greys, browns, and dark blues, characteristic of the late 19th-century Tonalist style. It is signed in the lower left corner H. A. Osgood. The painting is mounted on a wooden stretcher and housed in an ornate, period-style gilded frame with scrolling foliate corner decorations and a textured inner border. The reverse of the work shows a small square canvas repair patch and a paper label marked MKK on the frame. Dimensions: H approx. 44 cm x W approx. 54 cm (frame). Condition: The canvas displays prominent craquelure across the entire surface. There is a visible accumulation of surface dirt and discoloured varnish. A localized repair patch is present on the reverse of the canvas, suggesting a previous restoration. The ornate gilded frame exhibits minor surface wear, small losses, and rubbing to the finish consistent with its age.
