This original gouache and bodycolour illustration on board depicts a British military figure in ceremonial dress uniform. The subject is portrayed full-length, wearing a dark blue tunic with red facings, gold aiguillettes, and a white Foreign Service helmet with a gilt spike and sunburst badge. The work is rendered in a stylised commercial illustration style characteristic of the mid-20th century. It is signed McCaslan in green script to the lower left. The artwork is executed on a professional illustration board, the verso of which carries two blue stamps reading HI-ART / No. 62 / COMTEX / ILLUSTRATOR BOARDS. Dimensions (measured against a ruler): approx. H 50.8 cm x W 25.4 cm. Condition: The board shows significant condition issues including a prominent tide mark from water damage across the top edge. There is general toning and discolouration across the sheet, with scattered foxing in the margins and background. The verso shows remnants of brown adhesive tape along the vertical edges and some surface wear.
