This oil on canvas work depicts a bustling scene at a railway terminal, identified as Estación Mapocho in Santiago, Chile. The composition is centred on the large arched roof of the terminal building, with several reddish-brown train carriages lined up in the yard. Numerous figures are scattered throughout the foreground, rendered with loose and expressive brushwork typical of the impressionistic style. The artist has used thick impasto in areas to define architectural elements and highlights. The work is signed in the lower right corner G. Isler. The painting is housed in a wide, tiered gilt-finished wooden frame featuring a cream-coloured inner slip. The reverse of the frame bears a printed label from a Santiago framer reading CUADROS MARCOS Juan Suter Y CIA LTDA MONEDA 720 SANTIAGO. Condition: The painting exhibits widespread craquelure, including a distinct spiral pattern of cracking in the central dark area of the station roof. There is evidence of surface dirt and dust across the canvas. The gilt frame shows some minor surface wear and small losses consistent with age.
