Vintage MENGEL CHIPPENDALE REVIVAL CHEST on CHEST

NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > Vintage Mengel Furniture chest-on-chest measuring 50" tall × 36" wide × 20" deep. The tall two-part case is finished in a warm reddish-brown mahogany tone and appears constructed with mahogany veneer over secondary woods, including strongly figured grain across the drawer fronts and top. The upper case has two smaller drawers above two full-width drawers, while the lower case contains three additional full-width drawers. The uppermost full-width drawer alone is fitted with three divided compartments for organizing smaller garments or personal accessories; the remaining drawers are undivided. Designed in the Chippendale Revival manner, the chest has a molded projecting cornice, pronounced waist molding, chamfered and fluted front corner details, pierced brass-tone bail pulls and short ogee bracket feet. The restrained Georgian proportions and traditional hardware place the piece within the broader Colonial Revival furniture tradition. The interior bears the branded PERMANIZED ~ MENGEL FURNITURE mark. Mengel Furniture of Louisville, Kentucky, became a major American manufacturer of bedroom and case furniture during the first half of the 20th century. The Permanized branding, traditional styling and construction suggest production during the 1940s or 1950s, before Mengel was acquired by Kroehler Manufacturing in 1956. The tall, relatively narrow proportions provide substantial drawer storage while occupying less floor space than a conventional dresser, making the chest suitable for a bedroom, dressing area or linen storage. CONDITION REPORT > The chest presents attractively with all drawers and original-style hardware in place. Age and prior-use wear include scattered scratches, rubs and minor finish irregularities.
