AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Handwoven natural-fiber buttocks basket standing approximately 9" tall and measuring 18" × 13" overall in a somewhat oval form. A curved elk spike antler measuring approximately 17" long extends across the top as a sculptural handle. The basket contains an assortment of large and small pinecones, seed pods and other gathered natural materials. The body combines pale reed or rattan ribs with coarse brown coconut fiber woven throughout the sides, rim and underside. The bottom has the characteristic buttocks-basket construction, with a pronounced central depression flanked by two rounded lobes. Alternating bands of pale reed and darker coconut fiber create a strongly textured, organic presentation. A handwritten tag identifies the materials as ELK SPIKE ~ COCONUT FIBER ~ GROUSE FEATHERS ~ SEED PODS, followed by the notation 1-LSU-11. The notation is preserved as found but does not establish a confirmed maker or institutional provenance. Buttocks baskets belong to the traditional rib-basket family, constructed around curved ribs that form a divided, double-lobed bottom. The elk antler handle and woodland contents give this example a rustic fiber-art character suited for lodge, cabin, Western or natural-history-inspired interiors.
